The Adventure Begins

Surgery is over, and the family medicine rotation begins. My family medicine preceptor works in Rayne, LA. Rayne is about 2 and a half hours outside of New Orleans, near Lafayette. The population is slightly less than 9000. Rayne's claim to fame is that it is the frog capital of the world. In our family med orientation, one of the department faculty had us go around the room and introduce ourselves - where we were from, where we went to college, which preceptor we were assigned to. We got to my turn, and I said I was from New York, went to Columbia, etc, etc, and then that I was going to Rayne. Dr. Wiseman paused, sort of chuckled to herself, and told me that I would have a great time. I'm expecting some degree of culture shock. Its going to be an interesting six weeks.
