Yet another reason that New York is great
There are delis everywhere. It is possible to get a sandwich pretty much anywhere in the city. There are deli counters and bodegas and corner stores on virtually every block. I was utterly stunned last night when all I wanted was an egg salad on whole wheat sandwich, and was unable to find one anywhere. When I complained about this to my friends, I was told that New York is pretty much the only city where you can get a sandwich with such ease. Apparently its the only city where delis are absolutely ubiquitous.
Did anyone else know about this? I was completely flabbergasted. I never realized that I would have to take the bodega for granted. And its not just Houston. Apparently Boston and Seattle and like, every other major city is the same way. Eduardo says that the closest he's seen outside of New York are po-boy shops in New Orleans, which aren't really the same.
Who knew that I would ever crave that shitty little deli on the corner of 169th and Fort Washington?
