Day 2 in the ER
Pretty intense stuff today. First this paramedics brought in this woman who had been found lying on the floor of her FEMA trailer and was freezing cold and didn't have a pulse and was essentially dead. Still, we spent like, twenty minutes doing compressions and shocking her and pumping her full of meds before they called the code. It was pretty surreal to do compressions on someone who you knew wasn't going to make it.
Then, pretty much right after they officially said she was dead, another woman came in who was having an acute MI. Seriously, it was intense. The nurses and doctors were running around setting up lines, pumping her full of meds, doing all this stuff. It was crazy. I just stood against the wall and watched and tried to not get in the way, because I had absolutely no idea what to do. They do not teach you how to deal with these situations in medical school. Anyway, this woman stabilized and will hopefully be okay. One of the things I don't like about ER is that there isn't really any follow-up. After she was stabilized and moved off the floor, thats it.
I think I am going to need to go to the gym and work out, or my shoulders will not be able to handle it. You have to push super hard during those compressions.
