Good Fucking Lord
I went back to New Orleans today. Good fucking lord. What a disaster. There's debris everywhere, and so many buildings are damaged or have just collapsed. Jefferson Street looked like a war zone. Nothing is open, except for a single CVS. Things reek. You know that smell from when you're walking down the beach, and something has washed up on shore and died and has been there for a day or two? Combine that with raw sewage and thats what New Orleans smells like. I have no idea how they can think that the city will be ready to go in January.
Oh, so the reason I went is because I had heard that people had gotten into my building last weekend and were able to get their stuff. Since having books seems like a good way to get through school, this seemed like a good idea at the time. Scott Cowen, oh fearless leader of Tulane University, said otherwise. Apparently he told the building manager on Thursday that he was closing Deming and that no one except for workers was allowed inside. I was super disappointed and came really close to crying.
New DH tonight. If my internet connection sticks, I'll blog.
